Board of Trustees Elections

Voter Brief Summary: Assalamu Alaikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh,

 

We are pleased to share the results of the recent mosque elections held to appoint individuals to key leadership positions for the upcoming term. The election process was designed to be inclusive, transparent, and community driven. Nomination Process: A total of 10 nominees were nominated by the community

1 declined the nomination and another withdrew right before the third call for voting.

The Election Sub-Committee called for a Meet & Great meeting on May 24 where 9 candidates met with members of the community and explained their ideas and thoughts regarding the well being of NHIC.

On May 24, 2025, the Sub-Committee made the first call for the voting. About 358 registered members were required for a quorum, but only 21 showed up.

On May 31, 2025, a second call for voting was made. 236 registered members were needed for a quorum, only 15 showed up.

The Sub-Committee made a third call for voting on June 28, 2025. Only 20 registered members were needed for a quorum. To make voting accessible to more members of our community and to encourage more participation, the Sub-Committee started the voting process at 10:00am till 12:00noon, followed by a break, then resumed the voting from 7:00pm to 9:30pm.

The statistics the June 28 voting day are as follows:

Morning: During the morning session, more than the 20 registered members required for a quorum showed up, including two nominees and both presidents of the Board of Trustees and the Executive Committee in addition  to another board member, were present to observe.

23 members did cast their votes, 6 sisters and 17 brothers for total of 23 votes.

Worth mentioning and for total transparency, the validity of one vote was contested.

For total farness, the Sub-Committee announced that if by the end votes tabulation, only 1 vote short comes between two contestants, it recommends an election rerun between these tow contestants.

Evening: 61 members did cast their votes. 22 sisters and 39 brothers.

 So, for the whole voting day:

– 84 ballots were casted, with the validity of 1 vote contested.

23 in the morning and,

61 in the evening,

Total of: 28 sisters and 56 brothers,

The Election Sub-Committee declares brothers Tariq Khan with the highest votes followed by Raduane Nasry with second highest.

As for Asaf Sheikh, Shairmin Uddinn, and Ahmad Shatara, the Sub-Committee recommends an election re-run between these three candidates. Brother Asaf and sister Shairmin for tie votes, and brother Shatara because of the invalid 1 vote mentioned in the morning period.

The Sub-Committee wants to thank all the volunteers who put the time and efforts to help, as well as candidates and all community members who participated in the event.

2025 Board of Trustees Candidates – More to be posted when received

Asaf Sheikh

Part of our  great NHIC community for the last 37 years. Elected as the first NHIC Vice president of the Board of Trustees in 2013 and then as the President in 2017 and served a full four year term.

In business for fifty years with extensive management experience in both “For-Profit” and for “Non-Profit“ Corporations.

Shairmin Uddin

My name is Shairmin Uddin, and I am currently serving as the Teacher/ Leader in Me Lighthouse Coordinator at Bedford Park Elementary School. I am also a doctoral candidate in the Southern Connecticut State University in the Education and Leadership Policy Program. I have experience teaching, and curriculum development for 15 years. I am highly interested in applying for the Board of Trustee position at NHIC to fulfill my passion for helping our community with any needs, especially with establishing a full-time accredited Islamic School. Insha’Allah in the future I would like to serve as the school leader to help bring a positive school culture and rigorous instruction to help our students for college and career readiness. I am currently living in West Haven, Connecticut and often use the masjid premises in NHIC with my family to attend prayers and events. I love this community and would love to serve this community in any way I can.

Jamal Shreiteh

I moved to the state 1984 and I’ve been living here since.
I have masters in Industrial Engineering from UNH, married with three children.

Radouane Nasry

I Radouane Nasry has been a member of this community since he chose New Haven County as a place of residence 27 years ago. He is married and a father of 3 children. Mr Nasry became especially active as a Muslim after 9/11 where he used his position as an educator to speak about “ Being a Muslim in America” in several schools as well as houses of worship throughout Connecticut. He currently teaches languages at Guilford High School.

Dr. Nabab Khan

Joined the NHIC community in 2022. Originally from Delhi, India. Current position: Scientist, Neuroscience Department, Yale University (joined 2021). Publications: 35, International renounce journals

Current BOT member seeking to run again for the next elections.

Bylaws Section 6.3.2 VOTING Membership

Any individual who is regularly in the NHIC and known by the Imam and or the EC qualifies to become
a member. A member shall have the right to vote in the General Assembly meetings. Periodic
review of the membership shall be done by the EC to check the voting rights.
1 – PARTICIPATING IN MOST OF the NHIC ACTIVITIES.

2 – DONORS/VOLUNTEERS
3 – AGE 18+.
4 – MEMBER FOR AT LEAST 1 YEAR.
5 – LEGAL STATUES, permanent resident or a U.S. citizen.
6 – PARTICIPATING IN AT LEAST 1 GENERAL ASSEMBLY MEETING IN THE YEAR OF THE ELECTION.
Members must show their Connecticut ID or driver’s license alongside with the up-to-date
information in order to vote. Any changes to the information must be reported within 30
days.
